Because I've been there. In 2001, I was working on Wall Street and by all external standards I was successful, but inside felt unfulfilled and living an average status quo life.
And then on September 11th I rose from my desk and looked out the window of my office building to see the second plane crash into the World Trade Center.
I was one of the fortunate ones who made it down 33 flights of stairs at One New York Plaza. I made it home exhausted and numb only to be awoken in the early morning hours full of questions.
A voice asked:
WHEN YOU GET WHERE
YOU'RE GOING,
where will
you be?
WHEN YOU GET WHAT YOU
WANT,
what will
you have?
WHEN YOU HAVE ALL THAT
YOU WANT,
will it be worth
Christ's sacrifice?
IF YOU DIED
YESTERDAY,
would you have
any regrets?
I realized in that moment that I would never,
could never, go back to living a life that felt average,
status quo, mediocre, unfulfilled, and stagnant.
